Somali President and Opposition Hold Crucial Talks at Villa Somalia

Mogadishu – A high-level meeting is currently underway at Villa Somalia between President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and opposition leaders from the Council for National Salvation (Madasha Samatabixinta).

The talks, expected to be the final round of deliberations, aim to reach a definitive agreement on ongoing disputes over proposed amendments to Chapter Four of the Provisional Constitution, which outlines the country’s electoral system and the distribution of state powers.

In the hours leading up to the meeting, technical committees representing both sides convened to focus on resolving the key contentious points. While the opposition has pushed for changes to the chapter, the presidency has maintained its position that the existing provisions should remain in force.

Both sides are expected to issue a joint press statement at the conclusion of the talks, detailing any agreements reached.

Somalis nationwide are closely watching for the outcome, which could shape the country’s political and electoral framework in the coming years.
