MOGADISHU— Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is expected to visit frontline areas in the Middle Shabelle and Galgaduud regions in the coming days, as the Federal Government intensifies preparations for a renewed military offensive against Al-Shabaab, according to informed sources.

The sources said several units of the Somali security forces have been deployed to the coastal town of Adale in Middle Shabelle to reinforce security and prepare for the president’s anticipated visit.

Senior commanders of the Somali National Army have also recently held meetings in Adale, focusing on security arrangements and operational plans for a new military campaign targeting Al-Shabaab positions across the region.

President Mohamud is also expected to travel to El Dheer in the Galgaduud region, where he is reportedly scheduled to meet senior military commanders, local authorities and officials involved in operations along the frontlines.

The anticipated visits come amid growing indications that the Federal Government is preparing to reinvigorate its campaign against Al-Shabaab. Military mobilisation and operational preparations are already underway in several areas of Hirshabelle State, where government forces and allied local fighters are seeking to increase pressure on the militant group.

The planned offensive is understood to form part of the government’s broader strategy to weaken Al-Shabaab’s presence, disrupt its operational networks and regain control of areas where the group remains active.

However, the Somali presidency and other government institutions have not formally confirmed the visits, and no official timetable for the president’s travel has been announced.
