Somali Religious Leaders Rally in Mogadishu Against Israeli Violations

A peaceful demonstration was held in Mogadishu on Tuesday, led by Somali religious scholars, to protest against Israel over what organisers described as actions threatening Somalia’s national unity.

The rally took place at the Dajirka Dahsoon Monument in Mogadishu and was organised by prominent Somali clerics. It drew broad participation from across society, including officials from the Banadir Regional Administration, civil society representatives, religious leaders, and members of the public.

Speakers at the gathering strongly criticised what they characterised as Israeli interference and violations directed at Somalia’s unity and sovereignty. Participants expressed their opposition through speeches and chants, while reiterating their readiness to defend the country’s territorial integrity and national cohesion.

Addressing the crowd, senior cleric Sheikh Ali Wajiis said Somali scholars had mobilised to raise public awareness about what he described as Israeli efforts aimed at dividing the country. He emphasised that protecting Somalia’s unity is a fundamental religious, national, and moral responsibility.

Sheikh Yusuf Ali Ceynte, also speaking at the event, called on political leaders, religious figures, and citizens to remain united and vigilant, warning against what he termed destructive agendas targeting Somalia. Another cleric, Sheikh Abdullahi Ahmed, stated that the Somali people would not accept any external violation of their country’s unity.

The Deputy Chairman of the Union of Somali Islamic Councils, Sheikh Bashir Ahmed Salad, said that Somalis would not tolerate any infringement on their national sovereignty. Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Union, Sheikh Suufo Yare, said the demonstration—combining a march and a public assembly—was intended to clearly communicate the unified position of Somali religious leaders in defence of the unity of the Somali nation.

The protest concluded peacefully, with organisers and participants renewing calls for solidarity, vigilance, and collective action to safeguard Somalia’s unity and independence.
