The elite Danab special forces of the Somali National Army carried out a coordinated night-time operation in Jilib district of the Middle Juba region, targeting militants affiliated with Al-Shabaab. According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Defence of Somalia, the operation resulted in the killing of 15 militants, while eight others were captured.
The operation, conducted around midnight, highlighted the growing operational capabilities of the Somali National Army, particularly its expanded use of air support to widen the scope of military operations and strike hostile elements at any time and in any location.
The statement further noted that Danab forces carried out a similar operation the previous night in the Buula-fulaay area of Bay region, where nearly 30 militants described as Khawaarij were reportedly killed.
