DOOLOW— Former Commander of the Somali Custodial Corps, General Mahad Abdirahman Aden, widely known as “Shub”, sustained minor shrapnel injuries following an airstrike targeting his residence near the Doolow airport in the Gedo region. He has since been relocated to a secure facility.
According to security sources, two missiles hit General Shub’s compound, injuring the general, his wife, and two other family members, while a young domestic assistant lost her life. A third projectile reportedly targeted the nearby residence of the Doolow district commissioner. Ethiopian forces deployed to the scene shortly after the attack.
The operation has ignited a political firestorm, with figures aligned with former South West State President Abdiaziz Laftagareen explicitly accusing Turkish unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of carrying out the strike on behalf of the federal government. The regional administration categorized the event as a state-sponsored assassination attempt against a prominent military and political opponent of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
Political figures have strongly condemned the strike. Federal MP Abdirahman Mohamed Hussein Odowaa described the action as an illegal abuse of state power that threatens national stability, warning against the weaponization of military resources to settle internal political disputes. Neither Villa Somalia nor the Turkish government has officially responded to the allegations or issued a statement regarding the operation.
