MOGADISHU, Somalia — The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, arrived in Mogadishu on Sunday, receiving a warm and high-level welcome from Somali officials.
His visit marks a significant step in deepening cooperation between Somalia and the African Union. Mahamat is scheduled to meet with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to discuss joint efforts in peace, security, and development.
Somalia is also expected to seek further support from the AU, including access to development programs funded by the African Development Bank, and enhanced AU involvement in Somalia’s stabilization and reconstruction efforts.
The AU delegation includes senior officials and experts, highlighting the importance the continental body places on its partnership with Somalia at this critical time.
