Fahad Yasin Haji Dahir, the former Director of Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), has criticised the leaders of Puntland and Jubbaland for what he described as an unjustified silence amid heightened political tensions, particularly on issues related to Somalia’s unity.
In public remarks, Fahad Yasin singled out Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni and Jubbaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madobe), arguing that their lack of a clear public position risks deepening uncertainty at a time when national cohesion is under scrutiny.
He said Puntland’s political weight and its long-standing association with defending Somalia’s unity place a responsibility on its leadership to speak openly and act with clarity. Fahad Yasin warned that continued silence from President Deni could fuel speculation that he either supports current developments or is connected to an alleged scheme, while also suggesting there may be undisclosed circumstances influencing the Puntland leader’s stance.
He added that both President Deni and President Ahmed Madobe have an obligation to uphold the duties of their offices by reflecting the public mood and national interest of the communities they govern, rather than allowing personal or narrow political considerations to shape their approach.
The statement comes as political debate intensifies over Somalia’s unity and the accountability of federal member state leaders, with observers now watching for any response from Puntland and Jubbaland to the allegations.
