The Federal Government of Somalia has in recent days escalated the deployment of security forces to multiple districts and rural areas across the country, in a renewed push to intensify operations against Al-Shabaab.
According to official sources, the Commander of the Somali National Army’s Ground Forces, General Sahal Abdullahi Omar, has overseen the mobilisation and dispatch of additional military units to frontline positions. Addressing the troops during a formal send-off, he called for heightened operational readiness and urged forces to sustain momentum in ongoing offensives, assuring them of continued government support, including logistics and reinforcements.
The commander emphasised that the objective of the current campaign is to dismantle Al-Shabaab elements operating in hideouts across various regions, as part of a broader strategy to restore state authority.
Operations led by the Somali National Army are currently underway in the Lower Shabelle region within the South West State of Somalia, where government troops, supported by military vehicles, have advanced into key locations. Parallel operations have also intensified in the Middle Shabelle region under Hirshabelle State.
Military officials indicated that targeted and sustained operations will continue until areas under the control of Al-Shabaab are fully recaptured, reflecting an expanded, multi-regional counterinsurgency effort by federal forces.
