Puntland security forces have intercepted a vehicle carrying 250 military uniforms in the divided city of Galkayo, according to a statement issued by the Mudug Regional Police Command.

Police said the Toyota Noah, bearing registration number WQ 713, had entered Galkayo from the Galmudug-administered side of the city. Security agencies had reportedly been monitoring the vehicle’s movements before intercepting it during a coordinated operation.

The driver was arrested and taken into custody for questioning. Authorities said an investigation had been launched to establish the origin and intended destination of the uniforms, as well as to identify any individuals or groups involved in their transportation.

In a separate incident, Puntland security forces arrested a motorist accused of driving while intoxicated after allegedly hitting a civilian in the Israac neighbourhood of Galkayo.

Police said the driver attempted to flee the scene following the incident but was later apprehended. The condition of the injured civilian was not immediately disclosed.

Mudug Regional Police Commander Colonel Mahmoud Muse Bille, commonly known as Farda-fuul, called on residents to cooperate with security agencies and report activities that could threaten public safety. He also warned that individuals involved in criminal activity or acts of insecurity would be held accountable under the law.

The seizure comes amid heightened tensions between Puntland forces and units affiliated with Somalia’s Federal Government operating in Galkayo.

Puntland has previously accused the Galmudug administration of cooperating with the Federal Government in recruiting and mobilising armed groups that it claims could be used to undermine security in Puntland.

Neither the Galmudug administration nor the Federal Government has publicly responded to the latest allegations.
