BOSASO(Raxanreeb Online) — Puntland security forces on Thursday morning formally took control of the former Puntland Security Force (PSF) headquarters in Bosaso, according to a statement issued by the Puntland Police Command.

The military compound had been controlled by forces loyal to Abdullahi Osman Diyano, who reportedly agreed to hand over the facility to the Puntland authorities.

In its statement, the Puntland Police said:

“The Puntland Defence Forces have today officially taken control of the command headquarters and compound previously occupied by armed groups that unlawfully presented themselves as security forces and were formerly known as the PSF.”

The statement added that the facility is now fully under the control of the Puntland Government, with its security, administration and command structure formally secured.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that a contingent of former PSF personnel travelling in approximately 10 military vehicles left the Qandho area overnight and headed towards Somalia’s North Eastern State administration.

Separately, other former PSF personnel, including several senior commanders, had earlier travelled to Galmudug State. They are currently reported to be stationed at the Danab military base, located south of Galkayo.
