Baidoa Tense as Leaders Gather for Controversial Inauguration

Baidoa— Delegations from across Somalia are expected to arrive in Baidoa, the capital of Bay region, to attend the inauguration ceremony of South West State leader Aden Mohamed Nur, commonly known as Aden Madoobe.

The ceremony is expected to be attended by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, Galmudug President Ahmed Abdi Kariye “Qoor Qoor,” Hirshabelle President Ali Gudlawe Hussein and Banadir governor Hassan Mohamed Hussein “Muungaab,” among other senior officials and political figures.

Local reports say final preparations are underway in Baidoa ahead of the event, while security has been tightened across the city. Security forces have increased their presence to protect the visiting leaders, officials and guests.

The inauguration is expected to draw representatives from both the federal government and federal member states, making Baidoa a major political focus in the coming days.

The event comes amid heightened tensions after reports that forces loyal to South West State President Abdiaziz Laftagareen attacked parts of Baidoa overnight.
