The Banadir Regional Court has sentenced a family for financing the Al-Shabaab militant group. The court found that the family was raising money and creating bank accounts to support the group’s activities, which is against the law.
Hassan Osman Aden received a 13-year prison sentence and a $20,000 fine. Three other family members—Fadumo Hassan Osman, Amina Abdullahi Abanur, and Hassan Aweys Khasim—were each sentenced to two years in prison.
The court’s Chairman, Salah Ali Mahmoud (Daban), announced the decision, stating it as a warning to others involved in financing terrorism.
