Ex-Puntland Deputy Minister Stabbed to Death in Bosaso

BOSASO — Former Puntland parliamentarian and ex-Deputy Minister Yusuf Bootaan Issa was killed on Monday in Bosaso, the commercial capital of Somalia’s northeastern Bari region, according to local sources and security officials.

Preliminary reports indicate that the incident was allegedly carried out by the deceased’s son, Mohamed Yusuf Bootaan, who is believed to have been suffering from mental health complications. Authorities said the suspect used a knife to attack his father multiple times during the incident, which occurred in the Al-Aqsa neighbourhood of Bosaso.

Security forces swiftly responded to the scene and took the suspect into custody. Investigations into the circumstances and motive behind the killing are currently underway.

The incident has sent shockwaves across Puntland, where Yusuf Bootaan Issa was widely known for his previous service as a member of parliament and deputy minister within the Puntland administration.
