Galmudug President Ahmed Abdi Kariye, commonly known as Qoor Qoor, has formally announced that he will not seek re-election, effectively ending his bid for another term as leader of the federal member state.

Qoor Qoor made the announcement during a public event attended by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre and the Director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency, Mahad Mohamed Salad.

In his remarks, the outgoing Galmudug president said he had decided to step aside from the race and abandon his ambition to continue leading the state. His announcement is widely viewed as a major political development that could reshape the upcoming Galmudug leadership transition.

The decision comes amid intensified political consultations involving senior federal officials, including Prime Minister Barre and NISA chief Mahad Salad, aimed at ensuring a peaceful transfer of power in Galmudug.

Political sources say Villa Somalia has been working to facilitate the emergence of a new leadership in the state, with discussions reportedly focusing on a candidate affiliated with the Justice and Solidarity Party.

Over the past several days, Qoor Qoor has held a series of meetings with Prime Minister Barre and Mahad Salad. The talks are understood to have centred on managing the transition process and avoiding political tensions as Galmudug prepares for a change in leadership.
