A group of Puntland Security Forces (PSF) personnel has been relocated to Xananbuure in Somalia’s Galgaduud region after Puntland forces took control of the unit’s former base in eastern Gaalkacyo.
Sources said the personnel have been accommodated at a military camp in Xananbuure, within Galmudug State, where they are expected to remain pending further instructions from the Federal Government of Somalia.
The PSF, a specially trained force that previously received support from the United States, has in recent months reportedly moved closer to the Federal Government, which has been providing salaries and military equipment to the unit.
The relocation follows mounting tensions between the PSF and the Puntland administration of President Said Abdullahi Deni, culminating in Puntland forces taking over the PSF position in eastern Gaalkacyo.
The Federal Government has not publicly disclosed its long-term plans for the relocated personnel or clarified what role the unit may assume following the loss of its Gaalkacyo base.
