In a decisive operation, Puntland’s security forces have successfully dismantled what was once the largest Daesh stronghold in the Ceelka Miraale area of the Bari region.
According to a statement from the Puntland Counter-Terrorism Unit, the forces launched a well-coordinated attack from several directions, targeting the group’s main base near the vital Ceelka water point—a site that had served as Daesh’s key operational hub in the area for over ten years.
“This is one of Puntland’s biggest victories to date,” the statement read. “The main Daesh command center has been brought under full control, and reports indicate that the remaining militants have fled towards the Baalade’e valley.”
Ceelka Miraale, known for its challenging terrain and strategic location in the Calmiskaad mountains, has long been a hideout for militant groups. This latest operation follows earlier successful raids in the Jeceel and Ina Caadoole valleys nearby.
