QORYOLEY, Somalia – The district of Qoryooley, located in the Lower Shabelle region, is grappling with one of its most severe security crises in recent history. With law enforcement struggling to maintain control, the region teeters on the brink of lawlessness, leaving residents in a state of perpetual fear and uncertainty.

The escalating violence has led to a sharp increase in the cost of living, exacerbating hardships for the local population. Reports of targeted killings, armed robberies, and widespread looting have become alarmingly frequent. Additionally, bombings have become a near-daily occurrence, sometimes cutting off the district entirely due to attacks attributed to the militant group al-Shabaab.

High-profile local officials who have dedicated years to public service in Qoryooley have been assassinated in targeted bombings—whether on the streets or within government offices. Such attacks have fueled large-scale protests, as residents demand immediate action from the authorities to restore security and stability.
