Baladweyne (Raxanreeb Online) – A deadly attack on Hotel Qaahira in Baladweyne, which lasted for nearly 15 hours, has finally been brought to an end by Somali security forces. The assault, launched by Al-Shabaab militants, began with a series of explosions that sent shockwaves through the city.
At least seven people, including community elders, military officers, and civilians, lost their lives in the attack, while several others were injured. The prolonged siege left the city in a state of fear and uncertainty.
Local authorities have confirmed that the security forces successfully eliminated the attackers and rescued many who were trapped inside the hotel.
“There were six attackers. Four of them detonated themselves, while our security forces managed to shoot and kill the remaining two. We were able to rescue several elders, officers, and civilians from the hotel. The operation was successfully concluded late last night, and security teams are now conducting thorough inspections of the premises,” said Baladweyne Mayor Omar Alasow.
Following the attack, life in Baladweyne is gradually returning to normal. The streets, which had fallen silent during the siege, are once again bustling with people and traffic as the city tries to move past the horrors of the past day.
