The British Embassy in Somalia has welcomed the recent political talks between the Federal Government of Somalia and opposition leaders, particularly members of the Council for Somalia’s Future, describing the engagement as a constructive step toward addressing pressing national issues, including electoral arrangements and the broader political process.
In an official statement, the UK Embassy encouraged both sides to sustain momentum despite the absence of an immediate breakthrough.
“We welcome the meetings between the Federal Government and the opposition. Although a concrete outcome has not yet been reached, we commend the ongoing efforts toward a peaceful and negotiated solution. We urge all parties to continue dialogue and intensify efforts to achieve consensus,” the statement read.
The United States Embassy in Somalia and the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM) similarly expressed support for the dialogue process. Both emphasized the importance of compromise, inclusivity, and good-faith engagement to overcome political differences and safeguard national stability.
The latest round of discussions concluded without agreement, with both parties reportedly divided over key unresolved issues. However, diplomatic sources indicate that informal consultations and renewed efforts are underway to bridge the remaining gaps and lay the groundwork for further negotiations.
International partners continue to stress that sustained dialogue and political compromise remain essential to advancing Somalia’s constitutional review, electoral process, and long-term stability.
