Mogadishu was rocked by tragedy on Wednesday as a suicide bombing near the Mogadishu Stadium claimed at least two lives and left two others injured, as confirmed by the police.

The incident occurred around 4:00 pm local time during a football match between the Galmudug and Banadir teams.

According to a brief report from the Mogadishu police, a suicide bomber detonated explosives near the stadium, sending shockwaves through the crowd.

The victims, all civilians near the scene, faced the brunt of the attack, with two losing their lives and two sustaining injuries.

A plume of smoke engulfed the stadium’s surroundings, creating a chaotic scene even though the match went ahead.

Thousands of spectators were inside the stadium watching the football match when the blast occurred.

In the aftermath of the explosion, gunshots echoed, though it remains unclear if they resulted in additional casualties.

The area surrounding the stadium, already under tight security, descended into chaos as people sought refuge in nearby shelters.
