A high-level delegation from the United Nations was received in Mogadishu today, marking the start of key discussions on the humanitarian situation in Somalia.
The delegation was welcomed at Aden Adde International Airport by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Hassan Mohamed Ali, who extended an official reception on behalf of the government.
The delegation is led by Tom Fletcher, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs. The purpose of the visit is to strengthen humanitarian cooperation, assess urgent needs, and mobilize increased funding for humanitarian operations in Somalia.
Also present at the reception was Mr. Mahmoud Moalim Abdulle, Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency, who plays a key role in coordinating emergency response efforts across the country.
During his visit, which runs from April 27 to May 1, Mr. Fletcher is expected to travel to Baidoa, where he will assess the humanitarian situation on the ground and engage with affected communities.
The visit reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen coordination between the Somali government and international partners in addressing the country’s humanitarian challenges.
