A high-level meeting held overnight at the Villa Somalia has resulted in key political decisions supporting Aden Mohamed Nur, widely known as Aden Madoobe, to contest for the presidency of South West State.
According to sources familiar with the discussions, the meeting also approved the promotion of Hussein Sheikh Mahmoud to the position of Secretary-General of the Justice and Solidarity Party (JSP), a move seen as reflecting his growing influence in domestic politics, particularly in relation to the forthcoming elections in South West State.
These developments come amid intensifying political competition and preparations for regional elections, which have significantly heightened political activity within South West State and the ruling party aligned with the federal leadership.
Aden Madoobe is expected to travel to Baidoa, the administrative capital of the Bay region, where political mobilization linked to the electoral process is already underway. Reports indicate that the federal leadership aims to reward his role in advancing recent constitutional amendments, which is viewed as part of a broader strategy to bolster his candidacy.
However, the plan is likely to face resistance, as several political actors have expressed dissatisfaction with the current trajectory of the electoral process. Observers note that the situation remains fluid, with further reactions and political shifts expected in the coming days that could influence the direction of the South West State elections.
