MOGADISHU — The Federal Government of Somalia has summoned Kenya’s ambassador to Mogadishu following reports that several Somali cabinet ministers were denied entry into Kenya.

The ambassador is expected to appear before Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday to provide clarification regarding the reported incident, according to official sources.

The incident allegedly occurred at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, where several senior Somali government officials were reportedly prevented from entering the country upon arrival.

Sources close to Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Kenyan ambassador had been formally summoned to explain the circumstances surrounding the incident and the reasons behind the decision to deny the Somali officials entry.

The Somali government has not yet released the names of the ministers involved or disclosed the official purpose of their visit to Kenya.

The development comes at a sensitive moment in relations between Somalia and Kenya, two neighbouring countries that maintain close political, economic and security ties despite periodic diplomatic tensions.

Monday’s meeting is expected to focus on establishing the facts surrounding the incident, easing emerging tensions and determining the appropriate diplomatic steps to be taken by both governments.

Kenyan authorities have not yet issued an official public statement regarding the reported denial of entry.
