Former South West Official Warns Against Foreign Interference

BAYDHABO, Somalia (Raxanreeb Online) Former spokesperson for Somalia’s South West State administration, Hassan Mohamed Abdi, has warned against foreign interference in the political and security affairs of South West Somalia, stressing that the region’s future should ultimately be determined by its people.

Abdi said the Federal Government of Somalia is receiving support from foreign countries, including logistical and other forms of assistance. However, he argued that such support would not alter the right of local communities to determine the political future and governance of their regions.

“You can bring foreign aircraft and vehicles, but the decision and destiny of the South West regions remain in the hands of our people,” Abdi said.

His remarks reflect growing political sensitivities surrounding the role of external actors in Somalia’s internal affairs, particularly in relation to the political and security situation in South West State.

Abdi emphasized that decisions concerning the future administration and governance of the region should be based on the wishes and interests of local communities rather than being dictated by outside powers.

The statement comes amid continuing political tensions in South West Somalia, where disputes over governance, federal authority and the involvement of external actors have become increasingly prominent.
