BAY —Somalia’s elite Danab Commandos have conducted a planned military operation south of the Leego area in Bay Region, targeting suspected Al-Shabaab positions, according to military sources.

The operation, carried out by the Special Operations unit of the Danab forces, resulted in the arrest of two individuals identified as members of the Al-Shabaab militant group. The troops also seized two AK-47 rifles during the operation.

Military forces further destroyed a site believed to have been used by Al-Shabaab militants to prepare explosive devices, the sources said.

The operation forms part of ongoing counterterrorism efforts by Somali government forces in areas where Al-Shabaab maintains a presence. The military has intensified targeted operations aimed at disrupting the group’s activities and dismantling its bases and hideouts.

Danab Special Forces have played a prominent role in Somalia’s counterterrorism campaign, carrying out specialized operations against Al-Shabaab fighters, weapons caches and suspected militant facilities.

The Danab forces said they would continue conducting targeted operations as part of efforts to strengthen security and weaken Al-Shabaab’s operational capabilities in the region.
