GAROWE— Puntland authorities have raised concerns over what they described as an alleged plan to undermine security and stability in the region, accusing Somalia’s Federal Government of facilitating the movement of weapons into Puntland.

In a statement, the Puntland administration claimed that the weapons could be used to fuel armed confrontations, provoke clan tensions, and create broader security instability across areas under its control.

The administration also announced a ban on the presence of any armed groups or forces not operating under Puntland’s official security institutions. It said security agencies had been instructed to strengthen border monitoring and closely track movements that could pose a threat to public safety.

Puntland officials further alleged that the Federal Government, with the support of unnamed foreign actors, was pursuing efforts aimed at creating political divisions and triggering clan-based conflict in the region. They said similar attempts had been made in the past but had failed.

The administration said it remains committed to safeguarding peace, stability, and public order, warning that it would not tolerate any activity that threatens the security of Puntland.

The accusations come amid worsening political tensions between Puntland and the Federal Government, with analysts noting that the current dispute reflects long-standing disagreements over governance, federalism, security coordination, and political authority.

The Federal Government has not yet publicly responded to Puntland’s latest allegations.
