Garowe — Security concerns have resurfaced in Garowe, the capital of Somalia’s Puntland state, following reports of renewed tensions and clashes involving forces affiliated with the Puntland administration.

Religious leaders in Garowe have called for a united stance against any actors threatening Puntland’s security, stability and political existence. In a strongly worded appeal, the clerics urged authorities and the public to confront any efforts aimed at destabilising the region.

The administration of President Said Abdullahi Deni has accused Somalia’s Federal Government of seeking to undermine Puntland’s state institutions. Puntland officials also alleged that federal authorities were involved in military mobilisation and the movement of weapons in parts of the region.

Mudug region is among the areas where Puntland officials say federal-linked military activity has been reported. The Puntland administration has said it will take measures in response to what it describes as threats to its security and stability.

The Federal Government of Somalia has not immediately responded to the allegations.
