Mogadishu — The Federal Government of Somalia said its forces, with support from international partners, have conducted a series of airstrikes targeting Al-Shabaab positions in several areas of the Middle Shabelle region.

In a statement, the government said the operations were carried out in Gayfo, Ruun Idiris and Cali Gaduud, areas it described as key locations used by Al-Shabaab for fighter mobilisation, training activities, and the storage of weapons, ammunition and military supplies.

According to the statement, the first airstrike took place on June 24 in Gayfo, where Somali authorities said an Al-Shabaab mobilisation centre was destroyed. The government said militants and military equipment were present at the site when it was struck.

On June 25, three consecutive airstrikes were reportedly carried out against an Al-Shabaab training facility in Ruun Idiris, where the group was allegedly preparing fighters for future operations.

The government said another strike on the same day targeted armed Al-Shabaab militants in Cali Gaduud, who were allegedly preparing to launch attacks and carry out terrorist activities.

Somali authorities did not provide further details on casualties or the full scale of damage caused by the strikes. Al-Shabaab has not immediately commented on the government’s claims.
