Mogadishu (Raxanreeb Online) – In a heartfelt address during the opening of the sixth session of Somalia’s Federal Parliament, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud spoke candidly about the nation’s political and security landscape, offering words of solidarity and hope to the people of Puntland.
With a tone of both resolve and empathy, President Mohamud commended the bravery of Puntland’s forces as they confront ISIS militants entrenched in the rugged mountains of the Bari region. Acknowledging the hardships faced by local communities, he assured them that their struggle is not one they face alone.
“We stand shoulder to shoulder with the Puntland forces who have courageously taken up arms to liberate their homeland from ISIS,” the president affirmed. “This is a righteous battle, and it is the collective duty of every Somali, no matter where they are, to lend their support.”
Reflecting on the broader threat posed by ISIS, President Mohamud noted the group’s impact not only on the region’s safety but also on Somalia’s global image, as their presence signals lingering instability to the international community.
Beyond words of encouragement, the president pledged concrete action. He announced plans to establish a dedicated committee tasked with supporting Puntland’s forces, ensuring they receive the resources and assistance needed to sustain their fight.
However, his message arrives against the backdrop of Puntland leaders expressing frustration over the lack of tangible federal support, despite previous commitments. With this renewed promise, the president sought to reassure the region that their sacrifices have not gone unnoticed.
