Somalia and Turkey forge strategic Tech partnership

The National Communication Authority of Somalia and the Information Technologies and Communication Authority of Turkey have signed an MOU that will enhance digital communication innovation in Somalia.

The new agreement was signed at the BTK headquarters in Ankara, where it will cover an array of technical and administrative domains essential for the 21st-century economy.

Somalia and Turkey will now collaborate on satellite communication and streamlining regulation for orbital assets. Cybersecurity and resilience, where they will build defenses against global digital threats and ensure network uptime.

The Information Technologies and Communication Authority of Turkey will also work closely with Somalia to manage the spectrum by effectively allocating radio frequencies for mobile and broadcast services.

The team will also coordinate and accelerate allocation of high-speed internet across Somalia and develop fair and effective regulatory standards for the web.

The chairman and the president of BTK, Mr. Omer Abdullah Karagozoglu, acknowledged the partnership, which he said it has been supported by the deep-rooted economic ties between Somalia and Turkey.

“Through these partnerships we aim to promote exchange of knowledge, regulatory experience, and best practices. Thereby supporting resilient, forward-looking communication sectors in both turkey and Somalia,” said Mr. Omer

His sentiments were echoed by the National Communication Authority of Somalia Director General Mr. Mustafa Yasin Sheikh, who noted that the agreement is a catalyst for capacity building and the modernization of Somalia’s regulatory frameworks, which are critical for attracting foreign investments into the tech sector.
