The East Africa region head of states reaffirms support for Somalia’s sovereignty.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has revealed that regional heads of state from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Djibouti have reaffirmed their support for Somalia’s sovereignty amid growing backlash across the globe following Israel’s Friday statement.
In a statement, after having a series of high-level telephone calls with the presidents of Kenya, William Ruto; Uganda, Yoweri Museveni; Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan; and Djibouti, Ismail Omar Guelleh.

President Mohamud said the discussion focused on a broad spectrum of bilateral, regional, and global issues, and it emphasized the importance of collective security and economic integration.

The statement said the 4 presidents reached a consensus on the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia. A commitment to regional stability through the African Union forces (ATMIS) and (AUSSOM).

President Mohamud’s timing for these calls is vital, as political temperatures remain high in Somalia. Israel’s statement has received massive resentment across the Somali states; the Northwest State, which is a federal member state, in a statement rejected the announcement made by the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the recognition of Somaliland.

The Northwest State maintained that the declaration constitutes a clear violation of international law, which obligates all states to respect the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
