Mogadishu — The Federal Government of Somalia has called for an immediate end to the ongoing clan violence in Jalalaqsi district of Hiiraan region, following reports of deaths, injuries and the destruction of civilian property.
In a statement, the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation appealed to the armed groups involved in the fighting to cease hostilities and refrain from revenge attacks. The ministry said some of the warring parties had allegedly been involved in the burning of homes and killings linked to clan grievances.
The ministry issued a firm warning to all sides involved in the conflict and directed security agencies to take urgent measures to contain the situation, de-escalate tensions and restore law and order in the district.
Meanwhile, the first peace delegation is reportedly heading to Jalalaqsi. The delegation is led by Hirshabelle Vice President Yusuf Ahmed Hagar Dabageed and is expected to engage with traditional elders, local authorities and community representatives.
The talks are aimed at securing an immediate cessation of hostilities and finding a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Jalalaqsi.
