Mogadishu (Raxanreeb) – The Council of Ministers of the Federal Government of Somalia, in its weekly meeting on Thursday, approved a series of defense cooperation agreements designed to strengthen the country’s security sector and enhance the capacity of the national armed forces.
The agreements, concluded between the Ministry of Defense of Somalia and the defense ministries of Jordan, Qatar, and Pakistan, will primarily focus on training and capacity building for the Somali National Army.
The session, chaired by Acting Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama, also reviewed the current security situation. The Council discussed ongoing military operations against Al-Shabaab and Daesh, reaffirming the government’s commitment to eliminating terrorist threats and consolidating stability.
Officials said the newly approved agreements represent a significant step toward building a professional Somali defense force, while also strengthening Somalia’s strategic ties with partner nations.
