Fierce Clashes Erupt Near Beera-yabaal as Somali Forces Repel Al-Shabaab Attack

Hiiraan (Raxanreeb Online) Residents of the Beera-yabaal area in Somalia’s Hiiraan region woke up to the sounds of heavy gunfire and explosions early this morning as intense clashes broke out between Somali National Army (SNA) forces, supported by local militia, and the militant group Al-Shabaab.

The attack, initiated by Al-Shabaab, began with a series of powerful explosions that shook the area, followed by fierce close-range combat. Witnesses reported that the echoes of gunfire and blasts could be heard in villages surrounding Beera-yabaal, spreading fear and anxiety among local communities.

According to an official statement from the Somali National Army Command, government forces successfully foiled what they described as a “suicidal attack” launched by the militants at dawn. “Our troops prevented the Khawarij (a term used to refer to Al-Shabaab) from advancing and are now pursuing those who fled into the forested areas along the Shabelle River,” the statement read.

While specific casualty figures have not yet been confirmed, reports indicate that both sides suffered losses during the confrontation. Local residents remain on high alert as security forces continue their operations to secure the area and prevent further attacks, determined to restore peace and stability in the region.
