14 Arab and Islamic Nations Condemn Somaliland’s Alleged Jerusalem Mission Plan

A group of 14 Arab and Islamic countries has jointly condemned reports that Somaliland plans to open a diplomatic mission in occupied Jerusalem, warning that such a move would violate international law and United Nations resolutions concerning the status of the city.

In a joint statement issued by the foreign ministers of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Turkey, Pakistan, Indonesia, Djibouti, Somalia, Palestine, Oman, Sudan, Yemen and Lebanon, the countries stressed that any action seeking to alter the legal and historical status of Jerusalem is “null and unacceptable.”

The ministers called for adherence to international resolutions related to Jerusalem and reaffirmed their support for the Palestinian cause.

The statement also reiterated strong backing for the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, while rejecting any actions considered harmful to Somalia’s independence and national unity.

The reported move has sparked regional concern amid growing sensitivities surrounding the political and diplomatic status of Jerusalem and Somaliland’s international engagements.
