The Somali National Army, specifically the 9th Battalion of the 60th Division, launched a significant military operation early this morning against Al-Shabaab militants on the outskirts of Hudur, the capital of the Bakool region. The operation targeted the Kederar-Adde area, situated about 30 kilometers northwest of Hudur, and involved a brief but intense skirmish.
Military officials reported that the mission inflicted heavy casualties on the insurgents, resulting in the capture of a key Al-Shabaab base. A high-ranking officer described the mission as “meticulously planned and executed,” emphasizing the Somali army’s ongoing commitment to dismantling Al-Shabaab and restoring stability in the region.
This operation reflects the government’s broader strategy to secure rural areas and weaken the militant group’s influence which has been a long-standing threat to the country and the Horn of Africa.
Tensions remain high in the Hudur district following the operation, with reports of ongoing military and insurgent activities. The local population remains cautious as they monitor the evolving situation.
