BELEDWEYNE, Somalia – Intense fighting has erupted in Somalia’s Hiran region, where Somali government forces, supported by local militias and Djiboutian peacekeeping troops (Hiil Walaal), are engaged in fierce clashes with Al-Shabaab militants, military sources reported on Friday.
The conflict is centered between the strategic towns of Halganand Buula-Burde, with heavy engagements reported around the village of Jiciboow. As part of the military operations, airstrikes have also been conducted in an effort to weaken Al-Shabaab’s hold in the region.
Leading the offensive is Ali Jeyte, a prominent Somali military commander, working alongside regional and federal leaders in a broader campaign to dismantle Al-Shabaab’s control over key areas in central and southern Somalia. This operation is part of Somalia’s ongoing effort to restore security and stability in regions long affected by insurgent activities.
However, the intensifying violence has raised deep concerns among local residents, many of whom are caught in the crossfire. Reports indicate that families in affected areas are struggling with displacement and insecurity as government forces and their allies push forward.
Despite gains made by the coalition forces, the situation remains fluid and highly volatile, underscoring the persistent security challenges in Somalia. The government’s strategic push aims to reclaim and secure critical areas, demonstrating its commitment to countering extremist threats and restoring peaceto communities that have endured years of conflict.
