The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Somalia, Abdisalam Omer Dhaye, held a meeting with his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry Abdelatty, to discuss bilateral relations and regional security cooperation.
The talks focused particularly on Egypt’s participation in the upcoming AUSSOM peace support mission, which aims to bolster ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability in Somalia.
Minister Dhaye expressed Somalia’s gratitude for Egypt’s consistent support, emphasizing the need to further strengthen the partnership grounded in the shared history and values of the two nations.
For his part, Minister Shoukry commended the positive progress in Egypt–Somalia relations and reaffirmed Cairo’s commitment to building a strategic partnership that promotes peace, stability, and prosperity across the Horn of Africa. He also welcomed Egypt’s planned contribution to AUSSOM and underlined the importance of sustained international funding to ensure the success of the mission.
Egypt reaffirmed its support for Somalia’s state-building, peacebuilding, and reconciliation efforts, while calling for unity and cooperation among Somali leaders to address persistent security challenges.
Both ministers agreed to enhance coordination in the fight against Al-Shabaab, recognizing that lasting regional security depends on joint action and collective solidarity.
The two sides concluded by pledging to maintain close collaboration—both regionally and internationally—to confront shared challenges and advance peace, development, and stability throughout the Horn of Africa.
