The Commander of the Banaadir Regional Police Division, Colonel Mahdi Omar Mumin, widely known as Macallin Mahdi, has announced that security agencies are pursuing armed individuals allegedly associated with opposition-led demonstrations, accusing them of threatening government security personnel.
Speaking to the media, the police chief said authorities have identified the individuals in question and possess detailed information, including their names, photographs, and other personal data that could facilitate their apprehension.
“We are aware of their identities, photographs, and other relevant information. Those involved will be held accountable in accordance with the law,” Colonel Mahdi said.
The police commander also issued a warning to individuals accused of participating in armed activities, as well as those allegedly providing them with shelter. He urged the public to refrain from engaging in actions that could jeopardize public security and stability.
His remarks come amid heightened political tensions in Mogadishu, where both the Federal Government and opposition groups have been mobilizing supporters ahead of planned political activities.
Meanwhile, videos circulating on social media have shown individuals carrying protest placards alongside uniformed members of the Somali Police Force and the Somali National Army. The footage has sparked public discussion and raised concerns over the presence of armed individuals in connection with political demonstrations.
The developments underscore growing security concerns in the capital as authorities and opposition groups continue preparations for anticipated public gatherings. No arrests related to the allegations had been officially announced at the time of reporting.
