Banadir court dismisses warrant of Arrest for Jubaland President Ahmed Madobe

The federal government of Somalia has cancelled the warrant of arrest and dismissed all charges against the president of Jubaland, President Ahmed Mohamed Islam, popularly known as Ahmed Madobe, in the Banadir regional court.

The court order issued on Thursday by the acting chairman, Shuayb Macallin, states that the case (MGB/DCL/1531/2024) was officially closed following a formal request from the office of the attorney general.

The Banadir regional court also cancelled the warrant of arrest and the order to appear before the court that had been issued on November 27, 2024.

The federal government of Somalia had issued a warrant of arrest for President Madobe after he defied and proceeded with a unilateral re-election for a third term in Jubaland, against the directive of the federal government of a one-person-one-vote electoral system.

Political analysts suggest that the court decision is not a coincidence, as it’s meant to pave the way for all regional leaders to attend the high-stakes consultative meeting slated for February 1, 2026, in Mogadishu to discuss the country’s political and electoral process before the national elections.
