Armed militants from Al-Shabaab launched a coordinated attack early on Sunday against military positions operated by the Federal Government of Somalia on the outskirts of Warsheekh District, in the Middle Shabelle region.
According to preliminary reports, the assault began with multiple explosions, followed by a direct ground offensive targeting the military bases. Heavy fighting is reported to be ongoing, with sustained gunfire and a series of explosions heard across the area.
The attack comes amid continued security operations by government forces in locations believed to be under the control of Al-Shabaab, particularly in the Jabad-Godane area. Local sources suggest these operations may have prompted the militant group’s assault.
Residents in surrounding communities have reported casualties resulting from the clashes, though the exact number of fatalities and injuries has not yet been confirmed, as fighting continues and the security situation remains highly fluid.
Federal Government security authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident. However, independent sources indicate that government forces are offering strong resistance and continue to repel the attackers.
