A police officer was shot dead on Tuesday night in the northern part of Galkayo, Mudug region, in an incident that authorities say is currently under investigation.

The victim, Ahmed Ali Issa, widely known by his nickname “Dulyare,” was among a group of newly recruited police officers recently deployed to strengthen security operations in the Mudug region. According to eyewitness accounts, the shooting was allegedly carried out by another member of the police force.

Security officials confirmed that the suspect has been taken into custody and is currently being held by security authorities while investigations continue to determine the circumstances and motives behind the killing. Officials added that the suspect will be presented before the appropriate legal authorities once the investigation is concluded.

Ahmed Ali Issa had recently joined the Puntland Police Force in Galkayo as part of ongoing efforts to reinforce the security apparatus and support the maintenance of public order in the city.

The incident comes at a time when security agencies have intensified operations aimed at improving stability and preventing criminal activity in Galkayo. Authorities have pledged that a full investigation will be conducted and that the rule of law will be applied in addressing the case.
