Mahaday, Somalia – In a bold overnight operation, local defense fighters known as the Macawiisley struck a significant blow against Al-Shabaab militants hiding in the Howd area of Ciid-Ciidka, part of Mahaday district in Middle Shabelle.
Leading the operation was Osman Beerey, a well-known commander of the Macawiisley forces in the region. Speaking to state media, Commander Beerey described how his forces launched a surprise assault, killing four Al-Shabaab fighters and capturing a stash of weapons and military gear.
He said the operation was carefully planned and executed to weaken the militants’ grip in the area. After the attack, the bodies of the four militants were taken by Al-Shabaab operatives to the nearby area of Ali Fooldheere, also in Middle Shabelle.
Commander Beerey proudly confirmed that local forces have now secured the areas where the clashes took place, ensuring they remain under the control of the community defenders. “This is another step toward freeing our people from the fear and violence of Al-Shabaab,” he said.
The successful operation is seen as another sign of the growing strength and determination of local forces to defend their land and communities from militant threats.
