Jubaland State President Ahmed Madobe has called for an urgent consultation meeting with federal lawmakers representing Jubaland. Scheduled to take place in Kismayo from November 8 to 11, this meeting seeks to address the escalating political situation in Somalia and its impact on the region.
This move mirrors a recent action by Puntland’s administration, which convened its federal parliamentarians in Garowe on October 22. Both events underscore the widening rift between regional states and the federal government, primarily fueled by disputes over electoral procedures and governance.
The Office of the Jubaland President issued the invitation on Sunday, emphasizing the necessity of dialogue in light of recent political resignations. Deputy Minister of Education Ahmed Isman Ibrahim Daqare and Minister of State for Planning and International Cooperation Abdirashid Jire Qalinle both resigned, citing mounting tensions and accusing the federal government of fomenting discord with regional administrations, including SSC, Puntland, and Jubaland.
Jubaland and Puntland’s decision to boycott recent National Consultative Council meetings in Mogadishu further illustrates the strained relationship with the central government.
The upcoming meeting in Kismayo is expected to unify regional perspectives and explore strategies for future negotiations with the federal administration, addressing key issues around Somalia’s electoral and political framework.
