Ahmed Madobe has announced his bid for a fourth term as President of Jubaland, with elections set for November 25. This comes after the regional parliament controversially removed term limits earlier this year. The federal government has criticized the process, calling it illegitimate and a blow to Somalia’s push for one-person-one-vote elections.
Tensions are rising in Kismayo, where a clash between opposition guards and security forces left one officer dead and two injured. Jubaland police accused opposition candidates of provoking the violence, an allegation the opposition has yet to address. The incident has raised concerns about security ahead of the vote.
Madobe, however, remains optimistic, pledging to accept the election results regardless of the outcome. “If I lose, I will accept the results,” he said in an interview, urging calm and responsibility among all candidates.
