Kenya Mediates as Hassan Sheikh and Ahmed Madobe Plan Second Meeting

Mogadishu – Reports indicate that Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is set to return to Kismayo, the interim capital of the Jubaland regional administration, for another round of talks aimed at resolving ongoing political tensions.

According to reliable sources, President Hassan Sheikh will hold a private meeting with Jubaland leader Ahmed Mohamed Islam, commonly known as Ahmed Madobe, to discuss the year-long standoff between the Federal Government and the Jubaland administration.

The meeting, which will be the second between the two leaders in less than a month, is expected to focus on reaching a political settlement that could end the prolonged disagreements.

President Hassan Sheikh has consistently stressed the importance of holding free and inclusive elections in Kismayo to ensure that the people of Jubaland can fully exercise their democratic rights.

Reports suggest that President Ahmed Madobe is preparing to organize district council elections based on a one-person, one-vote system, in alignment with the Federal Government’s broader electoral plan.

Diplomatic sources indicate that the upcoming meeting in Kismayo is being facilitated by neighboring countries, particularly Kenya, which has played a mediating role in the dialogue between Mogadishu and Kismayo.

Earlier this month, on October 5, President Hassan Sheikh paid a two-day visit to Kismayo where he met with Ahmed Madobe. That meeting ended without a breakthrough, and both sides agreed to hold a follow-up round of discussions expected to take place soon.
