(Raxanreeb Online – Yemen)–The Houthi movement in Yemen has once again issued a warning, threatening to launch a strike within 48 hours against a UAE-installed radar facility, which was established to monitor and secure the Red Sea maritime corridor.
This latest development comes in the wake of reports from Bosaso, where the airport has recently seen an influx of military contractors — Colombian mercenaries reportedly hired by the United Arab Emirates.
The growing militarization has sparked serious concerns among local authorities. Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni is reportedly alarmed by the heightened tensions, with sources indicating he may relocate from his underground PMPF (Puntland Maritime Police Force) command center to avoid potential fallout from any escalation.
Despite the gravity of the situation, the Federal Government of Somalia has so far remained silent on the UAE’s activities in Bosaso — particularly the installation of the radar system, which is seen as a direct provocation against the Houthis. The radar was intended to bolster airspace monitoring and defense in response to increased Houthi drone and missile threats in the region.
The Houthis, angered by what they perceive as UAE expansionism in Somalia and Yemen, have warned that the new radar facility in Bosaso is a legitimate military target, raising fears of a broader conflict spilling over into Somali territory.
As the deadline issued by the Houthis approaches, the situation remains tense, with regional analysts warning of significant security implications for both Somalia and the wider Horn of Africa if hostilities erupt.
