A group of 26 Somali lawmakers from both houses of Parliament, representing constituencies in Puntland, have issued a statement expressing strong support for the upcoming elections in the Jubaland administration. The legislators underscored the importance of this electoral process as a crucial step toward preserving democratic principles and promoting political stability in the region.
The lawmakers also voiced their firm opposition to the recent move by the Federal Government of Somalia to extend mandates for regional administrations and the push for a one-person-one-vote electoral system along with party-based elections. They highlighted that these initiatives could threaten the stability and autonomy of federal member states.
In their statement, the lawmakers accused the Federal Government of inciting political and security disruptions in both Puntland and Jubaland. They warned that any destabilizing actions taken by Villa Somalia could have serious repercussions on peace and security within these regions.
The lawmakers called on the federal authorities to honor existing political agreements and to refrain from measures that could compromise the stability of the states. They emphasized the need for collaboration and respect for the democratic process to maintain security and foster unity throughout Somalia.
